X-ray technology: ceramic-metal composite solutions
Expertise in X-ray technology: Ceramic-metal composite solutions from Alumina Systems
Alumina Systems develops and produces high-precision ceramic-metal composite components for demanding applications in X-ray technology. Our metallized ceramics combine the outstanding electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of aluminum oxide ceramics with the electrical conductivity and solderability of metallic materials. The result is high-performance, durable, and vacuum-tight components for medical, security, and high-frequency applications.
Advantages of ceramic materials in X-ray technology
Compared to plastic or glass, metallized ceramics offer decisive technical advantages. Ceramic-metal composite components are suitable for ultra-high vacuums and achieve helium leak rates of 10⁻⁸ mbar L/s, or even down to 10⁻¹¹ mbar L/s upon request. They thus meet the highest requirements for tightness and purity in modern X-ray systems.
Unlike plastics, ceramics are not subject to degradation by X-rays. While glass reaches its limits under high voltages and thermal stress, aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) impresses with its high mechanical stability, excellent dielectric strength, and very good thermal conductivity. These properties make our composite components ideal for use in X-ray tubes, detectors, high-voltage feedthroughs, and other high-vacuum components.
FEM-supported development for maximum reliability
At Alumina Systems, we rely on state-of-the-art methods for numerical component design. Using the finite element method (FEM), we simulate all relevant loads and material stresses right from the development phase. The FEM analysis takes into account both the thermal and mechanical properties of ceramic materials as well as the brazing process itself to realistically represent bond stresses.
If necessary, additional thermal cycling, mechanical loads, or high-voltage stresses are taken into account. The result is components with outstanding durability and reliability that remain permanently stable even under extreme operating conditions in X-ray technology.
Technical innovation: Antistatic coating in high vacuum
To prevent electrical charges on ceramic surfaces, Alumina Systems has developed a special conductive coating. This technology minimizes the risk of localized discharges and ensures stable operation at high voltages in a vacuum. This allows our customers to rely on consistent performance and maximum operational reliability, even under demanding conditions.
